Overnight temperatures will be slow tocool off each evening, only falling below 70 degrees for a shortperiod each night, if at all depending on your location. The warmnighttime temperatures will limit chances to recover from theheat, exacerbating the risk of heat-related illness during thisprolonged heat wave.* WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Oregon andsouthwest Washington.* WHEN...Until 10 PM PDT Tuesday.* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly duringextreme heat events.Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out ofthe sunshine, and check up on relatives and neighbors.Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Carinteriors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loosefitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morningor evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion andheat stroke.To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety andHealth Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks inshaded or air conditioned environments. High levels ofozone in the lower atmosphere in the region combined withforecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthylevels at times through Tuesday evening.Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, aggravateheart and lung diseases, and aggravate other serious healthproblems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if itis smoky.
