Flood Warning issued September 27 at 8:34PM EDT until September 28 at 9:00AM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive runoff continues.* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including thefollowing counties, Burke, Henderson, Polk and Rutherford.* WHEN...Until 900 AM EDT Saturday.* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lyingand flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roadsremain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due toexcess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings areinundated with water and may not be passable.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- At 830 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gaugesindicated storm total rainfall of 6 to 15 inches occurred.Major flooding is likely continuing along Mud Creek in theHendersonville area. Flood waves continue to work down theGreen River, Broad River and Second Broad River.- Some locations that will experience flooding include...Hendersonville, Forest City, Rutherfordton, Columbus, MillsRiver, Fletcher, Spindale, Flat Rock, Etowah, Landrum,Mountain Home, Laurel Park, Tryon, Lake Lure, Saluda,Ellenboro, Bostic, Chimney Rock Village, Chimney Rock StatePark and Bat Cave.- http://www.weather.gov/safety/floodStay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can becomeunstable and unsafe.The heavy rainfall that occurred earlier is significantly increasingthe risk of landslides, especially in areas where slides haveoccurred in the past. Slides can destroy single homes and otherstructures and large sections of roads. If you are in the warnedarea, you should not travel, except to move away from flash flood orlandslide dangers. If you are in the vicinity of a stream near theheavy rainfall, especially on a mountainside, or at the base of amountain or in a cove, move immediately to a safer location.
