Coastal Flood Advisory issued September 27 at 4:49PM EDT until September 27 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot ofinundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelinesand tidal waterways. For the High Surf Advisory, large breakingwaves of 5 to 10 feet in the surf zone. For the Beach HazardsStatement, dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves inthe surf zone.* WHERE...West Carteret, East Carteret and Coastal OnslowCounties.* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 8 PM EDT thisevening. For the High Surf Advisory, until 4 AM EDT Saturday.For the Beach Hazards Statement, until 8 PM EDT this evening.* IMPACTS...Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with onlyisolated road closures expected. Dangerous swimming andsurfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currentscan sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeperwater. Dangerous shore break can throw a swimmer or surferhead first into the bottom causing neck and back injuries.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong ripcurrents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide,which will occur around 11:30 PM Friday.If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may beclosed. Do not drive around barricades or through water ofunknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-proneproperty.Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due todangerous surf conditions.Life-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remaincalm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired,float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable toescape, face the shore and call or wave for help.Shore break occurs when waves break directly on the beach. It isextremely important to protect your head and neck whenever youare in breaking waves by keeping your hands in front of you atall times.
