Flood Warning issued September 27 at 6:41PM EDT until September 28 at 1:45AM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is ongoing.* WHERE...A portion of western North Carolina, including thefollowing county, Buncombe.* WHEN...Until 145 AM EDT Saturday.* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lyingand flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remainclosed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excessrunoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundatedwith water and may not be passable.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- At 639 PM EDT, emergency management reported widespreadflooding is ongoing in the warned area. Flooding is ongoingor expected to begin shortly. Floodingwill reach areas which have not seen flooding in the last 20 years.Many residents new to the region since 2004 may see unprecedentedflooding across the French Broad Valley.* WHAT...Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.This level exceeds the flood of record.* WHERE...French Broad River near Fletcher.* WHEN...Until Monday evening.* IMPACTS...At 20.0 feet, Record Flood Stage. Significant anddamaging flooding of the French Broad River Valley is likely fromEtowah upstream to Avery Creek and Biltmore Park downstream of thegauge site. Floodwaters are approaching levels similar to thoselevels observed in during Hurricane Frances in early September,2004.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...- At 11:15 AM EDT Friday the stage was 23.2 feet.- Bankfull stage is 10.0 feet.- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hoursending at 11:15 AM EDT Friday was 23.2 feet.- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 30.5feet this evening.
