Excessive Heat Watch issued June 16 at 2:56PM EDT until June 21 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions for several days are expected.Peak afternoon heat indices around 100 degrees are likely eachday from Monday through Friday.* WHERE...Southeast Michigan.* WHEN...From Monday afternoon through Friday evening.* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly duringextreme heat and high humidity events.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The effects of heat on the human body getworse as the number of consecutive days of heat increase.Nighttime lows will only drop into the 70s this week, which willoffer just modest relief from the heat. In addition, highs inthe lower 90s may persist into the weekend.Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on thissituation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relativesand neighbors.

Air Quality Alert issued June 16 at 10:42AM EDT by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MIThe Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued an AirQuality Advisory for Monday June 17, for elevated levels ofozone. Pollutants are expected to be in the Unhealthy for SensitiveGroups range.The alert is in effect for the following Michigan Counties,Wayne, Washtenaw, Macomb, Oakland, Livingston, St. Clair, andMonroe.It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdooractivities, especially those with respiratory diseases such asasthma.People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead toozone formation. These activities include, refueling vehicles ortopping off when refueling, using gasoline powered lawn equipment,and using charcoal lighter fluid.Positive activities include, driving less, telecommuting, walking orbiking, delaying or combining errands and using water-based paints.For further information, please see EPA's Air Now site for up-to-date air quality data at https://www.airnow.gov.
