High Surf Warning issued December 28 at 3:59AM HST until December 28 at 6:00PM HST by NWS Honolulu HI...HIGH SURF WARNING FOR WEST FACING SHORES OF BIG ISLAND......HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF NIIHAUKAUAI AND OAHU AS WELL AS NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI....The large northwest swell that peaked Friday evening is expectedto gradually decline over the remainder of the weekend. Surfalong exposed west facing shores of the Big Island remains atwarning levels this morning. Along north and west facing shores ofKauai and Oahu and north facing shores of Maui, surf has alreadydeclined to advisory levels. Surf is expected to fall even furtherthis evening.* WHAT...Surf of 8 to 12 feet, lowering to 6 to 9 feet thisafternoon along exposed west facing shores of the Big Island.* WHERE...West facing shores of the Big Island.* WHEN...Until 6 PM HST this evening.* IMPACTS...High. Expect very strong breaking waves and powerfulcurrents that will make swimming or surfing dangerous. Wavesbreaking in channel entrances may make navigating the channelsdangerous.Stay away from the shoreline along the affected coasts. Beprepared for road closures. Postpone entering or leaving channelsaffected by the high surf until the surf subsides.
