Large wavescan sweep across the beach without warning, pulling peopleinto the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches. Sudden immersionin cold water can result in cold water shock even for the mostexperienced swimmers. Cold water shock can result in dramaticchanges in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure, greatlyincreasing the risk of drowning in rough open waters.If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may beclosed. Do not drive around barricades or through water ofunknown depth.
