Air Quality Alert issued June 27 at 4:00PM PDT by NWS Hanford CAISSUED: 06/27/2024 09:00EXPIRES: 07/01/2024 18:00The Valley Air District is issuing an Air Quality Alert on June 27,2024, due to smoke impacts from wildfires in Fresno County includingthe Fresno June Lightning Complex and Basin Fire in Madera, Fresno,Tulare, and the Valley portion of Kern Counties.This Air Quality Alert is in effect until the fires are extinguished.Exposure to particle pollution can cause serious health problems,aggravate lung disease, cause asthma attacks and acute bronchitis,and increase risk of respiratory infection.Residents are advised to use caution as conditions warrant. Inpeople with heart disease should follow their doctor's advice fordealing with episodes of unhealthy air quality. Short-term exposureto particle pollution has been linked to heart attacks andarrhythmias, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.Additionally, older adults/elderly people and children are also moresusceptible to consequences of high particulate levels and shouldavoid prolong exposure, strenuous outdoor activities or heavyexertion, as conditions dictate.For additional information, call your local San Joaquin ValleyAir District office. HeatRisk will be Major or Level 3of 4 initially, then become Extreme, Level 4 of 4 on the 4th ofJuly into the weekend.* WHERE...Much of central California.* WHEN...From 11 AM Tuesday to 8 PM PDT Saturday.* IMPACTS...This level of rare, long-duration extreme heat withlittle to no overnight relief affects everyone, especially thosewithout effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Impacts likely in most health systems,heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure.Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out ofthe sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles.
